fall juice fast

After months of hearing my accupuncturist hound me about eating enough protein, last week he threw me for a loop by suggesting that I go on a 3 day juice fast.  Which was interesting because I was talking to a friend the day before about how fasting should be related to the seasons, specifically at the change of season.  According to my accupuncturist, we should look to nature to see what we need.  Right now the trees are beginning to shed their leaves.  Nature is cutting back.  It is time we do too before we enter the winter building and hibernating phase of the year.

The actual fast starts with 5 days of gradually shifting to soups, fruits, etc.  The 4 and 5th day you eat mainly soups and juices.  Then you do 3 days of just juice.  Followed by 5 days of the reverse slowly working back to the food you normally eat.

Luckily this has turned out to be another way for Jude to be active in the kitchen.  He loves making my juices.  We made a perfectly balanced juice with carrots, celery, and ginger.  Energetically carrots are very different from celery.  If you want inspiration and energy eat celery (reaching up to the sky).  If you need grounding go for the carrots (big roots).  Mix them for the perfect balance.  We dilute the juice half and half with water.

And it is delicious!

Jude agrees for a sip or two...a better tasting juice for kids is carrot and apple with a tiny bit of ginger.  It's good for mamas too.

Please don't take on a juice fast without having someone to guide you.  There is a right way and a wrong way.  It would be too bad to miss out on the benefits of juice fasting because you had a bad experience.  And never fast while pregnant or nursing.  When we fast, our bodies take advantage of the opportunity to burn up toxins and diseased cells in our bodies, which is great for us, but not good for a developing babe.

At threading light today, I spilled the beans about an upcoming trip as we talked about making your life a living revelation.

  3. I would never have thought that a three day fast would actually take so long to do properly. But it makes complete sense when you think about it. Good luck with this.

  4. Anna,
I know I've never done a fast like this before and I'll have to say it definitely makes it much , much easier. It gives you a chance to adapt on all levels, body, mind, and spirit. I've dove into them into the past and it has been a less than pleasant experience. That's why I gave the precaution at the end. Right now, I'm on day 2 of juice only and I feel pretty good. Yesterday, I was hungry, but mostly when I was making Jude something to eat. I sucked on pomegrante seeds and that helped me get through the day on juice.
    Blessings~

  5. Oh how I love juice fasts and cleasnes. That first photo has me craving a fresh juice in the worst way. :) However I'm currently doing a candida cleanse and so carrots are out for me...for now. :) Enjoy - I hope you feel great afterwards. xo -Debbie

  6. What great steps to take towards health and into the darker, more filling days of winter. I have never done a fast, and would love to try a cleanse too. Now that my boys are no longer nursing I need to remember I can begin! Over the 10 years combined, being pregnant, nursing two boys, I've forgotten that my body is once again my own!!

Your helper is so adorable, Elizabeth. :-)
